Ellen: Her Triumphant Women
During an inspiring visit to Smallhythe in Kent, the last home of the illustrious, colourful and charismatic Victorian actress Ellen Terry, Ros and Helen were shown Ellen Terry’s annotated manuscripts of her lectures on Shakespeare’s Women and her Shakespeare scripts. These revelations of an extraordinary personality and actress became the kernel of this play about Ellen Terry's life and work.
Between 2011 and 2013, with the help of an Arts Council Grant, Cambridge Devised Theatre presented 'Ellen' at a number of venues, including The Arts Centre, Stevenage Festival; Smallhythe Barn Theatre; The Junction, Cambridge; The Seagull Theatre, The Fisher Theatre, Harpenden Public Halls and The Headgate Theatre.
On June 19th 2015, Ellen will be performed as a monologue Ellen: My Life in Shakespeare at the Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage as the opening production for the 40th anniversary celebrations of the opening of the theatre.
